Claude and Kathleen worked closely with an architect's design for the home they planned on a family property on the water. Working from designs that differed in style from much of Russ' work, they began their relationship discussing drawings and what they hoped to build.

"From the very beginning, Russ listened to us carefully to understand what we were trying to achieve with the house. He was a terrific thought partner in it."

This proved to be a both a challenge and a satisfying experience from start to finish. "Our sensibility about what the house should look like was different from most of Russ' clients'. He adjusted from the outset and continued to do so along the way so that it was fun and easy to work with him." Kathleen adds, "Russ was excellent in adapting elements of our architect's designs that, as we progressed on the house, we discovered really weren't going to work as we wished. Russ was great in concocting alternatives that made the end result better by refining the design."

Claude was impressed with everyone on the work site: "His team shares Russ' remarkable attention to detail. Since there are many, many built-ins to the house, their wonderful work in this area was uniquely important. And we're thrilled with the work they did."

As to the process of grabbling with the inevitable ups and downs of building a custom home, Kathleen notes, "We always had complete confidence and trust in both Russ and Tim. We knew we were getting an honest appraisal from everyone on the Doucette team at every step of the way. I can't understate the importance of that kind of communication. Plus, it comes with good humor. Russ' sense of humor is a wonderful relief: My advice is don't try to build a custom home without it."

And summing up, "Russ and his team's most frequent response tells it all, 'No problem. Don't worry. We'll get to it.'"
